In contrast to traditional input or activity-based funding, RBF can enable and incentivize actors to adopt experimental approaches and continuous problem solving to address complex development challenges.
Instiglio plays a unique role at the pioneering frontier of RBF practice. We support actors ranging from innovative and nimble non-profit service providers seeking to improve their interventions, through to large donors and national governments dedicated to driving greater effectiveness across their entire delivery systems.
Our work encompasses three streams:
Performance
Management &
Systems
Strengthening
We work with governments, service providers, and donor organizations in the identification and adoption of a variety of strategies focused on results, from performance management practices and outcomes-based financing, to reforming and upgrading entire delivery systems.
We build capabilities of service providers and government systems to manage on outcomes. Such work can involve upgrading information systems focused on key indicators of performance, training staff on problem solving, and helping leaders create a learning culture in their respective organizations. This work is an important step towards succeeding in Results-Based Financing.

Outcomes-based &
Innovative Financing
We work with impact-driven partners to assess where and how outcomes-based financing can help them achieve better results. We accompany our partners during the entire process; from conducting feasibility assessments, to designing and implementing a variety of outcomes based financing instruments.
We advise and accompany our partners in the design and implementation of a range of results-based financing instruments. These instruments can be deployed at various levels, including single interventions with one outcome payer and one service provider to multiple funders pulling resources in an outcomes fund to launch multiple interventions to large government-led systems of delivery and funding.

Leadership
We work with practitioners and researchers to generate and disseminate the evidence and lessons needed to underpin a broad ecosystem of results-focused innovation and experimentation across the globe. To this end, we deliver trainings; participate in and organize relevant forums and events; and publish guidebooks, learning agendas around key projects, and other open-source technical tools and resources.
